Linking an Encoder

Any Rocket Broadcaster installation can be linked to your Radio Mast account. Once linked, you will be able to remotely monitor, configure, and control that installation.

To link a Rocket Broadcaster installation, follow the steps below:

Get the Encoder ID from Rocket Broadcaster

  1. In Rocket Broadcaster, click Options -> Link to Radio Mast...
  2. Your unique, secret Encoder ID will be shown. Click the Copy to Clipboard button.
  3. Save this Encoder ID somewhere temporarily, as you will need it later.

Prepare to add the Encoder ID to Radio Mast

  1. In Radio Mast, you need to choose which station this encoder should be linked to. If you don't have a station on Radio Mast, create one by clicking the Radio Stations link at the top of the page once you have signed in to Radio Mast.
  2. Click on Encoders in the sidebar on the station page in the Radio Mast interface.
  3. Click the Link an Encoder button. If this is the first time you're linking an encoder to your account, you will be prompted to generate a Master Encoder Key. Follow the instructions below to proceed.

Generate a Master Encoder Key

Commands you send to your Rocket Broadcaster installations through Radio Mast are secured by encrypted, and authenticated by a secret key that only you have. This means that even Radio Mast can't control your installations without your authorization, which keeps your stream safe and secure.

When linking an encoder for the first time, you'll be asked to generate a Master Encoder Key, which is used to secure communication between Radio Mast and Rocket Broadcaster.

After clicking the Link an Encoder button:

  1. Click the green Generate button. An secret Encoder Master Key will be created for you.
  2. Your Encoder Master Key will appear below. Click the Copy to Clipboard button and paste your Encoder Master Key somewhere safe. For example, back it up in an email to yourself, or open Notepad and save it in a text file on your desktop. Do not lose this key
  3. If you lose it, you will lose access to any linked Rocket Broadcaster installations, and you will have to re-link them all.
  4. Click the "I have saved a copy of my Encoder Master Key in a secure place" checkbox.
  5. Click the Register Encoder Master Key button.

You are now ready to securely link a Rocket Broadcaster installation.

  1. Click on your station again, and click the Encoders link on the left.
  2. Click Link an Encoder.
  3. You will be prompted to enter an Encoder ID.
  4. Paste the Encoder ID that you obtained at the start of this guide. This Encoder ID uniquely and securely identifies your Rocket Broadcaster installation.
  5. Click "Link to your Account".

You will now be redirected back to the Encoders list, and you will see your linked Rocket Broadcaster installation. If you click on it, you will be able to see its current status, remotely control it, and remotely deploy a new stream configuration to it.
